Pistons’ Jerami Grant in COVID-19 protocols at Team USA camp

Detroit News

It’s been a tough couple of weeks for the Pistons in Las Vegas during Team USA’s preparation for the Tokyo Olympics later this month.

Last week, Isaiah Stewart had an apparent ankle injury that ended his week of work with the Select Team early. On Thursday, forward Jerami Grant, who is on Team USA, entered health and safety protocols, USA Basketball announced.

The official announcement noted: “Out of an abundance of caution, Grant has been placed under health and safety protocols.”

Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal also had been placed under the protocols on Wednesday, but USA Basketball announced that Beal will remain in protocol and will not participate in the Tokyo Olympics. A replacement for Beal will be announced.

Shams Charania of The Athletic, who was first to report Grant’s status, noted that Grant had not tested positive for COVID-19 and was being monitored as a precaution.
