Detroit Pistons guard Frank Jackson suffered a lateral sprain in his right ankle during Wednesday’s loss to the New York Knicks at Little Caesars Arena and will be re-evaluated in a week to 10 days, the team announced on Thursday.

The injury occurred during the second quarter, when Jackson landed on a Knicks player’s foot after contesting a shot at the rim. His ankle rolled, and he had to be helped off of the floor.

DEADLINE DECISIONS: What Pistons must target at deadline, regardless of Jerami Grant’s fate

The Pistons, who were already down 12 players due to a COVID-19 outbreak and and injuries, are now even more shorthanded. Saddiq Bey, Hamidou Diallo and Luka Garza are Detroit’s only active players from their main roster. Two-way forward Jamorko Pickett is also healthy.

Cade Cunningham, Killian Hayes, Isaiah Stewart, Saben Lee, Rodney McGruder, Trey Lyles, Cory Joseph and Josh Jackson have all entered health and safety protocols since Dec. 22. Jerami Grant (right thumb surgery), Kelly Olynyk (left knee sprain), Isaiah Livers and Chris Smith (return to competition conditioning), are all sidelined right now.

The Pistons have signed seven G League players to 10-day contracts to fortify their roster. They next play Saturday at home against the Spurs.
