Pistons vs. Jazz GameThread: Pistons hope to finish up Summer League on a high note against Jazz

Detroit Bad Boys

The Detroit Pistons (2-2) will be wrapping up Summer League action against the Utah Jazz (2-2). There are only a handful of players who feel like they are in Detroit’s actual plans entering the season. Unsurprisingly, those players are veteran Marcus Sasser, rookie draft picks Ron Holland and Bobi Klintman, and two-way player Daniss Jenkins.

Klintman has probably looked the best of the bunch, and in ways that could prove useful in a spot-minute role for the Pistons as a forward who can pass a little and shoot a little and is always active. Sasser maybe had the most to prove in his second Summer League. After scoring well at the NBA level, the Summer League was lined up for him to dominate. Instead, he largely struggled as the team used him as a point guard and he seemed to struggle between his instincts to look for his own shot and score, and his need to run an offense and get other guys involved.

Ron Holland, the No. 5 overall pick, has largely had a mixed bag of a Summer League season. His lack of strength has been most evident as he has struggled to finish through contact and get to his spots. He’s also been a bit of a straight line-drive player and it’s sometimes gone very well (a few poster dunks were made) and often went poorly.

However, as much as awareness on the offensive end seemed like a bit of a concern, he really showed strong instincts on the defensive side of the ball. He read plays well and used his body to limit penetration and close passing lanes.

We will see what they all do tonight in the team’s finale.
